Our Children’s Composer in Residence, Paul Rissmann, is at the heart of our commissioning work. Schools and family commissioned concerts for Early Years (The Chimpanzees of Happytown in 2011-12, Sir Scallywag and the Golden Underpants in 2012-13, Stan and Mabel in 2013-14 and Crazy Creatures in 2014-15) have been performed on national tours to sell-out audiences, enhancing Ensemble 360’s significant reputation as lively, engaging family perfomers.
Extra performances have been staged at Wigmore Hall, Tonbridge Music Club, Shrewsbury School, and Doncaster (commissioned by darts). This has enhanced our reputation and profile both as a commissioner of new music and as a provider of quality music-education activities.
Paul Rissmann won a BASCA British Composers Award in 2012 for The Chimpanzees of Happytown.
Each commission is presented in concert alongside companion pieces from the core classical repertoire, helping young people to discover a world of music.
We also run pre-concert workshops, teacher INSETs and prepare resource packs and videos that introduce children, teachers, and families to the music, explore the themes in the story, and suggest other creative activities and cross-curriculum links.
