Together Music in the Round and Ensemble 360 host an annual Festival each May in our home of the Crucible Studio Theatre, Sheffield.
The Festival was started in 1984 and now consists of nine days of concerts, talks, children’s events and more, that explore a chosen theme. Started by former Artistic Director and co-founder of Music in the Round, Peter Cropper (the former leader of The Lindsays), the baton was taken up in 2010 by Angus Smith, responsible for recent festivals such as ‘Les Nations: The Extraordinary Musical Life of Paris’ and ‘Turtle Soup: The Curious Story of Music in Britain’.
Each year we present a shorter mini-festival which offers the same immersion in a theme but over a jam-packed weekend.
Each Festival is a new journey for performers and audiences alike. It doesn’t matter how much or little you feel you know about the music being played - there’s always something new for people to experience.
2016 May Festival
6 - 14 May 2016
Ensemble 360 present not just a comprehensive survey of Beethoven’s music, but a programme that is full of thrilling and dramatic twists and turns and which embraces a wonderful array of pieces by numerous other composers whose lives have been touched by Beethoven. We are also joined by a glittering line-up of guests: old friends the Vertavo String Quartet, Julian Joseph, Roderick Williams, Benjamin Frith and the Avison Ensemble feature alongside an unmissable newcomer – Harry the Piano!
