Together Music in the Round and Ensemble 360 host an annual Festival each May in our home of the Crucible Studio Theatre, Sheffield.
The Festival was started in 1984 and now consists of nine days of concerts, talks, children’s events and more, that explore a chosen theme. Started by former Artistic Director and co-founder of Music in the Round, Peter Cropper (the former leader of The Lindsays), the baton was taken up in 2010 by Angus Smith, responsible for recent festivals such as ‘Les Nations: The Extraordinary Musical Life of Paris’ and ‘Turtle Soup: The Curious Story of Music in Britain’.
We regularly present shorter weekend festivals too, which offer the same immersion in a theme but over a jam-packed weekend.
Each Festival is a new journey for performers and audiences alike. It doesn’t matter how much or little you feel you know about the music being played - there’s always something new for people to experience.
Our next Festival for 2018 is:
LA BELLE ÉPOQUE A French Weekend
Festival of Chamber Music and Song from France's Golden Age
Friday 9 March - Sunday 11 March 2018
In collaboration with University of Sheffield Concerts
Warm, evocative, sensual….arresting, daring, forward-looking. The music of Ravel and Debussy is all these things and more. Over one weekend in March, Ensemble 360, Catrin Finch and guests present the complete chamber music of these two radical and inspirational composers as part of our Festival of Chamber Music and Song from France’s Golden Age, presented in collaboration with University of Sheffield Concerts.
