We regularly host masterclasses for musicians aged 11 – 18 that focuses on a specific family of instruments. Usually held at the same venues as Music in the Round’s core concert series, this offers a unique opportunity to perform in a professional venue, to receive advice and guidance from inspirational professional musicians (both from Ensemble 360 and visiting artists), and to share an excellent learning experience with their peers. To complete the package, participants receive a free ticket to a closely related concert, while their friends and family receive discount vouchers to encourage a whole party to come!
The String Masterclass in Autumn 2013, for players aged 11-18 of Grade 5 standard or above, was led by Rebecca Thompson (Hallé, Manchester Camerata); while in January 2015 we welcomed Melvyn Tan to the Crucible Studio for a masterclass for young and adult pianists based on the Variations for Judith.
Throughout 2015 and 2016, members of Ensemble 360 will be holding masterclasses at the University of Sheffield's Music Department, coaching undergraduates to develop their performance skills.
This event contributes to the ‘Explore’ and Bronze Arts Awards, allowing the more experienced participants to take part in a musical activity with a chance to use the professional musician taking the masterclass as their hero/heroine!
