SCHUBERT Violin Sonata in A minor D.385 Sonatina
BRAHMS Violin Sonata in G Op.78
Violinist Benjamin Nabarro and pianist Tim Horton present two of the most compelling violin works of the 19th century. Brahms’ first violin sonata was written shortly after the death of his 24-year old godson, the violinist and poet Felix Schumann. It is a tenderly written piece and it reportedly prompted Clara Schumann to say “I could not help bursting into tears of joy over it…I wish the last movement could accompany me to the next world.”
Schubert’s Sonata is an early work with a fullness of grace and charm that disguises the complexity of the harmonic structure.
* A transaction fee of £1.50 (£1.00 online) applies to all bookings (excluding cash) for events at the Crucible Studio. The fee remains the same irrespective of the number of tickets you purchase.
