LATEST COVID-19 UPDATE: Sheffield Chamber Music Festival 2020

Tuesday 31 March 2020

Following the announcement that Sheffield Theatres will remain closed until 23 May 2020, it is with great sadness that we share the news that, as with many other Festivals in May and beyond, the Sheffield Chamber Music Festival cannot go ahead as planned from 8-16 May in the Crucible Studio.

Given the current circumstances this is not a huge surprise; but it is still hugely disappointing for everyone involved: you, the audiences; Ensemble 360 musicians and guest artists; and Music in the Round staff and volunteers.

Sheffield Theatres will be issuing refunds to ticket holders for all our cancelled events. Please be aware that the Crucible is closed to the public; the Box Office team are working remotely and are unable to take calls at this time. We ask that you bear with them as they work through all the cancelled performances in due course – you don’t need to get in touch with them to arrange your refund. In the meantime, if you have any questions, you can contact us by email at marketing@musicintheround.co.uk or via social media.

We know that music can bring comfort, hope and community in difficult times, so we’re talking with our Ensemble 360 musicians about alternative ways we can continue to share their music-making over the coming weeks. We will be using our online channels to share videos of performances and musical conversations, and invite you to join our mailing list so you don’t miss out on opportunities to get up close to our musicians and music-making - providing a tonic in these isolating times. You will also be the first to hear of any further developments, as we explore the possibility of some of the Festival going ahead in the autumn, depending on how long the current situation continues.

Although the government has now agreed to support those who are self-employed, the future is still unstable for freelance musicians, as it is for all of us in the arts at the moment. We are in difficult times, as any such support is still unconfirmed and not likely to be forthcoming for at least a few months. Music in the Round would like to look after our resident group, Ensemble 360, as much as we can in the coming weeks and months, while balancing this with our long-term sustainability, so you can continue to enjoy high quality live music in the future.

If you would like to help us, we would be enormously grateful if you would be willing to convert the cost of your ticket into a donation at www.musicintheround.co.uk. We are a charitable organisation that receives some support from Arts Council England and other trusts and foundations, but we are also incredibly reliant on the income from ticket sales. Every pound that is donated will make a difference to the way we can support our musicians and with our plans for the future, and we are extraordinarily grateful to everyone for their understanding and support in such challenging times.

For all other Music in the Round events that have not been booked through Sheffield Theatres but that have been postponed or cancelled, the relevant venue will be in touch with you soon.

For further enquiries please email marketing@musicintheround.co.uk or contact us via social media, as our office is currently closed and staff are now working from home.

Thank you.
