Polly enjoys a varied career as Resident Animateur (0-8 years) with Music in the Round and a freelance workshop leader, concert narrator and presenter, workshop leader, trainer, coach and teacher.
As a children's concert narrator/ presenter she performs annually with Ensemble 360 at venues around the UK. She has entertained audiences, aged 2 and up, in new commissions Snap! Snap! by Richard Chew, Giddy Goat, The Lion Who Wanted to Love, The Chimpanzees of Happytown, Stan and Mabel and Giraffes Can’t Dance by Paul Rissmann, as well as Dirty Beasts by Martin Butler, Cinderella by Rory Boyle, Goulash the Ghoul based on Bartok’s String Quartet No. 3 and story by Jan Page, Saint Saens’ Carnival of the Animals and Poulenc’s Babar the Elephant. She has also performed live on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune.
Concerts with other artists include presenting Bright Sparks KS1 alongside the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Side by Side with the Royal Opera House and Southbank Sinfonia, The Hidden Fairy and Ferdinand the Bull with violinist Philippe Graffin and pianist Marisa Gupta at the Three Choirs Festival, the premiere of Igor the Bird Who Couldn’t Sing with clarinettist Michael Collins and pianist Michael McHale, Little Red Riding Hood with Sheffield University Wind Symphony Orchestra and Prokofiev’s Peter and Wolf with Hallam Sinfonia and Endcliffe Orchestra.
As a workshop leader, Polly regularly leads workshop projects, including MINIharmonics with the London Philharmonic Orchestra for 0-5 year olds, Music Box project with around 20,000 children aged 2 – 7 years since 2003, the Youth Music funded project Soundplay focussing on speech and language development for children at risk of delayed development, the Chamber Tots project for 3-5 year olds with the Wigmore Hall. She also led the Little Brandenburgs Project with harpsichordist Trevor Pinnock and the European Brandenburg Ensemble and projects with classical Indian ensemble Indus and Middlewood Sessions.
As a trainer, Polly has led training sessions for teachers, early years practitioners around the UK,
As a coach and cellist, Polly has conducted and coached several children’s orchestras including National Children’s Orchestra, Sheffield Music Service and the City of Sheffield Youth Orchestra and has adjudicated music festivals. Polly also regularly plays with Simply Strings Trio, Escafeld String Quartet, and Electric Light Orchestra Experience.
