Katie grew up in Northampton, where she learned the violin and discovered a love for orchestral playing through her participation in the county’s various award-winning youth music groups. She moved to Sheffield in 2013 to study Music at the University of Sheffield and has become fully immersed in the city’s musical activities. Katie enjoys playing regularly in a variety of settings, including in orchestras, with musical theatre companies, and in Sheffield’s lively folk scene.
During her studies at university, Katie excelled in composition and went on to complete her Masters in Composition in September 2017, under the guidance of Dr Dorothy Ker. Katie enjoys composing for a wide range of musical ensembles, and is really looking forward to exploring further as a composer now she has left university.
She also became very involved in music education whilst at university, regularly volunteering with local schools and with Music in the Round, and becoming particularly experienced in the planning and running of music education events. Katie is very excited to join the team at Music in the Round and contribute to the musical development of thousands of young children.
Outside of her professional activities, Katie spends her time enjoying arts and crafts, socialising and playing in local pubs, and dancing enthusiastically with swords in local folk dance team Sheffield Steel Rapper!
