Together Music in the Round and Ensemble 360 host an annual Festival each May in our home of the Crucible Studio Theatre, Sheffield.
The Festival was started in 1984 and now consists of nine days of concerts, talks, children’s events and more, that explore a chosen theme. Started by former Artistic Director and co-founder of Music in the Round, Peter Cropper (the former leader of The Lindsays), the baton was taken up in 2010 by Angus Smith, responsible for recent festivals such as ‘Les Nations: The Extraordinary Musical Life of Paris’ and ‘Turtle Soup: The Curious Story of Music in Britain’.
We regularly present shorter weekend festivals too, which offer the same immersion in a theme but over a jam-packed weekend.
Each Festival is a new journey for performers and audiences alike. It doesn’t matter how much or little you feel you know about the music being played - there’s always something new for people to experience.
Our next Festival for 2021 will start in early May.
Concerts are presented in the unique surroundings of the Crucible Studio, the UK’s most extraordinary venue for chamber music. It’s both intimate and relaxed, a space where you sit so close to the performers you can feel their excitement, see their energy and hear the control in every note.
Our resident musicians Ensemble 360, Singer-in-Residence Roderick Williams, and international guest artists perform a wide range of classical chamber music, from very well-known pieces to brand new works.
You can also enjoy informal talks, live music in the Winter Garden, drama with music, a Sheffield Cathedral concert, silent film with improvised soundtrack, family events, and more.
Dip in, and if you’re new to Music in the Round you can buy two tickets for just £5 each for many events. Or immerse yourself, and make use of one of our Festival Subscriptions to get the best deals. Either way, you’ll be very welcome.
