Learning & Participation
Our learning & participation programme engages over 17,000 people every year in high-quality music-making.
Led by inspirational professional musicians, animateurs and composers, our workshops, concerts, talks, masterclasses, Bring and Sing, Bring and Play events, and bespoke projects aim to inspire, enthuse, educate and engage people of all ages.
From a very young age, children and their families can start to discover a love of music through Concerteenies with Music in the Roun events, highly interactive concerts for nurseries, schools and families, and unique projects linked to the core concert series. Our Nurturing Talent strand provides opportunities for musical development and learning. We also lead a programme of activities for adults, as well as continual professional development for teachers and education practitioners.
Polly Ives, our Resident Animateur (0-8 years), leads much of Music in the Community’s innovative and ambitious programme of activity, devising and presenting concerts and leading creative workshops for diverse groups of participants.
Our Children’s Composer in Residence, Paul Rissmann, is an award-winning musician whose series of hugely popular commissioned pieces is a core part of our programme.
The energy and enthusiasm of world-class musicians Ensemble 360 is at the heart of what we do, and throughout the year we are joined by many other musicians and artists whose contributions always help to illuminate and energise.
Both in Sheffield and nationwide, we work with a variety of partners and funders who generously support Music in the Community financially and in kind, helping us to offer an ever-increasing programme of events.
