Feat. Anton Miller, violin & Rita Porfiris, viola
Classic silent films with live music including:
Tango Tangles (12′)
A Burlesque on Carmen (31′)
Charlie Chaplin’s comic brilliance meets the immediacy of live chamber music as the Miller-Porfiris Duo accompanies a selection of his early films, creating music in response to the action on screen.
In Tango Tangles, a dance hall becomes the setting for romantic rivalry and escalating chaos. A Burlesque on Carmen turns operatic passion into gleeful parody, as Chaplin’s hapless officer Darn Hosiery falls under the spell of Edna Purviance’s Carmen.
Anton Miller and Rita Porfiris bring these encounters to life through the colours, rhythms and interplay of their violin and viola. Their live accompaniment responds to Chaplin’s extraordinary physical timing, from the smallest gesture to the most unruly confrontation.
An evening of silent cinema with a spontaneous musical twist, celebrating the close relationship between movement, storytelling and sound.
