Composer Errollyn Wallen and poet Simon Armitage come together for the first time in an intimate evening of words and music.

The Master of the King’s Music and the Poet Laureate occupy two of the most prominent artistic roles in Britain.

Here, these charismatic champions share the stage as artists: Armitage reading from his work; Wallen performing songs of her own; and the two exploring the connections between poetry and music, voice and text, composer and poet.

In this unique evening, hear two distinctive voices of contemporary Britain in conversation, and see what happens when the country’s leading poet and composer meet on common ground.

“Armitage mixed poignancy with perfectly judged comic timing” The Scotsman

“His wit, grit and gift for mixing the demotic with the metaphorical have long made [Armitage] the people’s poet.” The Guardian

“[Wallen is] an artist truly in command of her craft” BBC Music Magazine

“Gritty, free-wheeling, exuberant” BBC Radio 3 Record Review on Wallen
