Two of the most magnetic performers in the UK today perform a stunning selection of sublime music for cello and voice.

Composer-cellist Colin Alexander and composer-soprano Héloïse Werner (The Hermes Experiment) bring their own compositions into conversation with imaginative arrangements of early music by Machaut and Hildegard von Bingen, alongside music by this year’s Guest Festival Curator, Errollyn Wallen.

Werner, “a soprano unlike any other” (The Times), finds wit and beauty in surprising places. Alexander draws a remarkable range of colours and textures from the cello. Together, they move between lyrical tenderness, playful exchanges and moments of stillness, finding fresh possibilities in music separated by centuries.

“It is song that I have turned to time and time again for the expression of heightened emotion and atmosphere. The combination of words and music is, for me, a magical formula.” Errollyn Wallen, from her memoir Becoming a Composer: My Music, My Life

“Werner and her colleagues make music that is as singular as it is striking.”
