Sheffield Chamber Music Festival comes to a delicious close in a programme of musical confectionery, with Schumann’s magnificent Piano Quintet at its heart.

Strauss’s whipped-cream waltz sits alongside Saint-Saëns’ sparkling Wedding Cake. Rossini supplies a handful of musical sweets, while Errollyn Wallen’s newest work Battenberg Concerto receives its world premiere.

Our Guest Curator has saved some space for playful surprises in her Finale too, with a teapot among the instruments taking the stage. Keal’s lively Scherzando offers another bite-sized delight before Schumann’s expansive Piano Quintet brings its sweeping melodies, intimate exchanges and irresistible energy to the feast.

Gershwin sends the Festival off with the exuberant Let ’Em Eat Cake Overture, rounding off nine days of musical friendships and unexpected connections in celebratory style.

A finale with something for every appetite.
