Composer-performer Errollyn Wallen launches Sheffield Chamber Music Festival in her own voice before welcoming some of her favourite composer-performers to play with Ensemble 360.
On the violin and viola, Katherine Hunka performs her moving and spirited Break Out with the strings of Ensemble 360, followed by a performance from pioneering post-minimalist composer-performer Andrew Poppy.
Crowned with Britten’s beloved chamber masterpiece, and forged from Wallen’s musical passions, friendships and connections, this opening concert sets the tone for a joyful and eclectic Festival celebrating the artists who write the music, play it and bring it to life.
“Katherine Hunka… directs from her violin with seemingly telepathic discretion.” The Irish Times
“Poppy’s music is like Madagascar – you discover species there you don’t find anywhere else.” The Wire
