An illuminating discussion exploring the role of northern England in the transatlantic slave trade, in the campaign for its abolition, and in the musical tradition at the heart of that campaign.
Dr Berta Joncus, musicologist and Research Lead at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, sets the scene for our afternoon concert with a talk based around her AHRC-funded project Abolition Song and its Legacies.
