THE SONGS OF MARTIN CARTHY

A special evening celebrating one of the great figures of British folk music, Martin Carthy, led by his daughter Eliza Carthy and the musicians who have shared his extraordinary musical journey.

Following Martin’s retirement from performing, Eliza brings together family, friends and collaborators to honour a career spanning more than six decades. Their programme explores songs from across his recordings, including his landmark debut, his work with Waterson:Carthy and beyond, bringing familiar favourites together with less frequently heard gems.

A remarkable singer, guitarist and interpreter of traditional song, Martin has influenced generations of musicians, including Bob Dylan and Paul Simon. His performances have given old ballads fresh urgency, finding the drama, humour and humanity within stories passed from one singer to another.

Twice nominated for the Mercury Prize, Eliza has herself become one of folk music’s most distinctive voices. Here she returns to the songs at the heart of her family’s musical life, sharing them with fellow performers whose own work bears Martin’s influence.

Join us for an evening of musical friendships, family connections and enduring songs, celebrating an artist whose music continues to travel far beyond the folk tradition.
