Sounds of Now: Rotations

From Tabea Debus’s website, about her performance of Rotations with Samuele Telari in Sheffield for Music in the Round, November 2022:

“The circle is a reminder that each moment is not just the present, but is inclusive of our gratitude to the past and our responsibility to the future.” – Kazuaki Tanahashi

The past years have made us reconsider our relationship to space and time, both in a literal and virtual sense. This process of reflection inspires the concept of “Rotations”: based on Jan Rokus van Roosendael’s “Rotations” for solo recorder (1988) and through contemporary music for recorder and accordion, the project reaches out to embrace present, past and future – in search of capturing a fleeting moment, melody and movement, we dream, remember, live, love, choose and hope.

  • Tabea Debus – recorder
  • Samuele Telari – accordion
  • Elisa Blasi – dance
  • Sally Marie – choreography

with music by

  • Arvo Pärt – Pari intervallo (1976)
  • John Cage – Harmonies (1976)
  • Sylvia Lim – slowly, turning (world premiere, 2022)
  • Arvo Pärt – Spiegel im Spiegel (1978)
